Director Park Chan-wook's new film "No Other Choice" on Sept. 14 won the inaugural International People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The award honors an international work except from the U.S. or Canada that receives the most votes from the audience. It means that a Korean film is the first winner of the award.
"I wasn't surprised by the news because I saw and heard in person the enthusiastic reactions of the audience during the official screening," Park said. "The audience gave the exact responses I wanted at every desired moment. The TIFF audience is the best in the world. I truly thank all staff and volunteers."
"No Other Choice" is about Mansu (played by actor Lee Byung Hun), a man driven to desperation after being abruptly laid off and seeking to find another job to protect his family. It will be the opening film on Sept. 17 at the Busan International Film Festival.
